There are many different ways to lose weight including fad diets, diet pills or supplements, exercise and traditional diets, weight loss surgery, and more. How do we know which is the most effective weight  loss method?

Weight loss surgery

Weight loss surgery is only available to those that are “morbidly obese” this means you must be at least 100 pounds over your ideal weight. Only your doctor can decide if weight loss surgery is right for you.

The two main weight loss surgeries available today are the lap band procedure and the gastric bypass. If you elect to have the lap band procedure you will have a band placed around the top part of your stomach. The band is tightened so that your stomach is in effect smaller and therefore makes you fell fuller faster resulting in weight loss. The band can be removed at a later date if you decide you do not want it anymore or if you don’t need it anymore.

The gastric bypass is similar; doctors will make your stomach smaller by cutting the top part of your stomach away from the rest and then sewing it. It makes your stomach much smaller so that you will eat smaller meals and lose weight fast.

Weight loss surgery should only be considered as a last result and if all other diet and exercise programs have failed for you. Always speak with your doctor about the risks of weight loss surgery before you commit to having the surgery done.

Diet pills or supplements

When selecting diet pills or diet supplements you must be very careful; most of them have not be evaluated by the FDA which may or may not be a concern to you. Some of these pills may also have side effects that could pose a problem to you so it is very important that you read the packaging and discuss them with your doctor before you start taking them. Some of the diet pills and diet supplements work very well for people, you will have to try some and see if they work for you; keep in mind that you must diet and exercise while taking these supplements.

Fad diets

Fad diets are diets that you see on TV, just by one month worth of their prepared meals and you will start losing weight in no time!! Again, this works very well for some people but you must incorporate regular exercise for it to work. Be prepared to pay the price also; these prepared meals aren’t cheap though you may get a discount for the first month.

Celebrities especially love fad diets because they can afford the meals and a personal trainer to help them lose weight quickly; that is why you always see them on the commercials.

Clubs

Clubs like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers have helped a lot of people; these are most likely to work. The only downside is you have to pay them for every pound you lose, it doesn’t seem very fair but that is how they make their money. You will also have to pay money for their special shakes and bars along with consultations with their so called experts. Some of these clubs even have support systems and special gyms for you to work out at.

It is hard to say what the most effective weight loss method is because it varies from person to person. Traditional diet and exercise is the safest and healthiest way to lose weight and is also the one your doctor will most likely recommend. Always ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for physical activity and let him know your plan for losing weight.
